Organic cotton is produced using non-genetically modified plants and without the use of fertilizers and pesticides. As a result, organic cotton has a low impact on the environment – protecting soil fertility and water systems, and using significantly fewer resources. In order to preserve each fibre, organic cotton is handpicked, resulting in improved durability and softness. Although the current production of organic cotton accounts for less than 1% of global cotton, demand continues to increase each year. Today the production of organic cotton is monitored by certification authorities such as the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
